Recently bought a smith and wesson 1905, ordered 200 rounds of ammo and dies, I have insane amounts of. 358 lead bullets, I can get proper sized bullets for the new gun, but wondering if I powder coat the bullets I already have it will bump the size up enough for them to shoot half decent

I have a late 50's vintage 38 s&w. For that revolver I powder coated .358" bullets, which with my powder coat came out at .363". I then opened a 358 push through sizing die to .360". I was never very pleased with the accuracy with the .360" bullets and in the past year have just gone to shooting .358" lead bullets.
After all that effort, it turns out that the lead .358s shoot better in my pistol.

I sell some of my powder coated bullets to people with older break action 38 s&ws. They seem happy with them, but in my pistol the pc bullets were so-so in performance.

I may just try using cast as is, only accuracy I want from the gun is to hit the 25m gong, may even partially size in mt 357/38 dies try that and if it sucks will take the wife's toaster oven outside and do some powder coating.. When she isn't home that is...lol

I put two layers of powder coat on .358" cast and they ended up around .361" if memory serves. They shot well in an Enfield I used to have. Better than the factory Winchester stuff anyway.

Did order 2 boxes of fiocchi just to try some factory ammo, but will load some handloader out 35$/50 is pricey, but will have to try to find a good load have a bunch of 231, in my load books the loads are rather light, but I have heard the top brake actions are on the weak side compared to the s&w

Powder coating companies strongly advise not to use the toaster oven for food anymore after it's been used for powder coating, better to get a used one and just use it for PC.
