38 special 158gr. LRN load

What would be close to factory load? Using 231 powder (.38spl., 158gr LRN)?

(In grains)

4.0 is what Winchester has in their powder manual.

4.0 - 4.5 is what Lee has in their loading manual.

4.6 might make Minor (out of a 4" revolver), if that matters to you.

I use 3.3 for my ppc loads. My Ruger just doesn't like Bullseye and Wadcutters. 2.5 gr must have been a mistype, since they would probably hit the dirt in front of the target at 50 yrds :)

"...2.5 gr must have been a mistype..." 2.5 grains of Bullseye has been the starting load for 148 grain WC's in a .38 Special for eons. Mind you, the starting load for 231 and a 158 grain bullet is 3.1.
"...Lyman 2nd edition..." Eh? Their Pistol and Revolver book?

I was referring to w231. I only brought up bullseye and wads because I always get heckled from my club for not using 2.7gr bullseye & wads for my PPC shoots .
