So I don't reload at the moment (on the list of things to get to eventually) but am getting into Cowboy Action shooting and was wondering if anyone has any recommendations regarding factory ammo. I don't mind using a different load for practice and matches (assuming match ammo would be more expensive).
I saw some Wolf factory reloads on the SFRC web site that looked pretty good value - anyone had any experience with this ammo?

Yep!
When I started Wolf got me started. I got .38spl, 158gr RNFP. Worked well. Then I got a 92 Puma by Rossi and it didn't like Wolf, they were just a little to short. No reflection on Wolf but if you're gonna use a 92 Puma as a main match rifle you'll need to get into reloading sooner than later, the same can be said about the Marlin I hear.
Have Fun and welcome to CAS. It's the most fun you'll have with your clothe on!
I garantee!

I'll let Tuco Pike answer that one ;), what are the guns you plan to use?:)

Who ME???? I think wolf will be the best value. The Wolf cowboy 38's are great. They should work O.K. in anything that is 38. In your revolver, you can pretty much use anything from Wolf in 38 that is a lead bullet. I have used Winchester White Box 38 ammo with the lead bullet and that works good too. I used them in a Winchester 94 in 38/357 and it worked well. The lever guns don't seem to like semi-wadcutters in my opinion/experience.

I think you can also get Winchester Brown Box Cowboy loads in 38, but you may need to order those or try Epps. PM if you have any other questions about what gear to use or anything else.

Thanks for the comments guys - looks like if I can pick up some of the Wolf stuff I should be good to go for now.

As far as guns are concerned, I have picked up a pair of Ruger New Vaqueros in .38/.357 and a Stoeger Coach sxs. I am having trouble finding a rifle right now. I would like the Marlin 1894 Cowboy but nobody appears to have one in stock. :(

As long as your rifle is a pistol caliber you are O.K. to start. I would recommend for savings start with a Puma/Rossi 92. If you want a better 92, the new winchesters are nice. If you want to only buy one gun and not worry about upgrading, get the Uberti 1873 or 1866.
