3.2 grains of 231 under a home swaged semi hard lead 148 grain wad cutter hollow point, or at times a round nose flat base of the same weight for ease of loading with a speed loader
Classic load. My only difference is that I use Lee tumble lube DEWC bullets that I cast myself from WW seated out about 3/32". They are more accurate than I'll ever be. I haven't found the Federal primers to be an absolute necessity unless your gun has a really light hammer strike. I use the exact same load in my Model 52 but with the bullets seated flush. The only thing I have done differently recently is that I now lightly taper crimp the bullets instead of roll crimping them. Seems to be a little more forgiving if you have slight variations in case lengths.
I shot 10s of thousands of 148 gn HBWC (Speer mostly) and 2.7 gns of bullseye seated flush. A little practice and speed loading was no issue with the WC. Used mostly W-W nickel and a lot of Fed as well. This load shot a 50 shot 2" group at 50 yds from my PPC pistol from a machine rest.
Thanx!
My current load is 2.7 bullseye with fed primer and a speer hbwc seated flush.
Also playing with some 148 dewc loaded with 2.8 grains bullseye and fed primer
Both are very accurate in my custom 686
My 686 I have to use federals cause it's tuned and has a lighter hammer strike
2.7 Gn of Titegroup under a 148 beveled edge wadcutter (Lyman Mold), powder coated and sized to .358, shot from Ruger GP100, just started using these and they are very accurate.
