Now I'm not pretending to be some kind of pistol sniper, but just for a laugh I thought I'd try out the 357 and 38 ammo in a Colt's revolver at this distance with factory irons.
Last late fall I started this experiment much too late into the colder temperatures. And I was very disappointed in the relative accuracy of two differing brands of 357 Magnum ammo that I tried then.

Today I took out the very same Colt and tried a few 38's @100 meters. (from a rest) I'm kind of impressed that 38 +P 158 gr SWC prints much more consistently then 357 does.

anyone else with similar opinions?

Maybe I tried the worst 357 ammo???

Got any pics, I love hearing about this stuff. How were you able to group? Did you even try, or was it just trying to hit a unmarked target like a gong or other target?
Did you shoot standing, or sandbagged? Again..............got any pics? Even of the gun, as I love Colt's.

At 100 meters with a pistol you are pretty much just spraying and praying unless you are very experienced. Lots of factors at play
Try it out with different ammo at a single sitting and see how it works out. Consistency is key. Try with a rest if possible.

Fellas you'll have to take mostly my word on groups.

The very first group was off paper at the 6 o'clock position in a rather nice J shaped group about 3 and one half inches wide. All six shots too.

The second group was much higher and left, and this one and only bullet hole is part of it. Just off paper by one or two inches was only three bullet holes, (and this fourth) just about the same width the first group.

I just shifted aiming points as I did not want to fiddle with the sights today. All shots from a seated and supported position, using the ammo box and a stapler stacked on top of each other, for an improvised rest. I love my Colt indeedly!!

(Background info: I very often shoot at 50 meters with a Hammerli target pistol one handed)

Nice gun!!! I love seeing people push the envelope. (as far as what a gun is expected to be used for, and what it is actually used for) I am gonna be using my .17HMR revolver (Taurus Tracker SS) to try to shoot 100 , then I'm gonna scope it and try for 200!!! We will see how that goes.............

^Good Luck to you Sgt Rock!

Indeed, this is entertainment of the highest order. ;)

I had a grand time shooting my first year .444 marlin at 600 yards. (using a red dot!!!) after I figured out which star in the sky to aim at, it was quite enjoyable hearing a gong hit at that distance with pretty much square bullets.

There are quite a few black powder handgun shooters at our range, and they ALL shoot 100 yards with their Ruger 10" barrelled handguns. They are all old as dirt too with eyesight as old, yet they do really well.
