38 super question

38 Super is loaded too hot for the 9mm Steyr and the rim is too large in diameter to fit the breech block face. Trim the rim on the Supere case to the same size as the case head and use starting loads for 9mm Luger.

Green is correct. Do not use .38S standard strength ammo even if the case fits the breech face (some do)..

The 38 Super is a semi rim case. That is why the rim has to be trimmed to fit the Steyr 1911 block.

I don't think a 9mm will even chamber in a .38 super. Something to do with the taper of the 9mm compared to the straight walled super.

Of course, I've never actually tried this, so I may be wrong.

I believe in some sloppy chambers, it might be possible, but most certainly not safe.

If you are tring to find a cartridge that will work in the Styre, why not try the 38 super comp. It has no rim. Do not load these to max , the Styre cannot handle the pressures.

Re: 9mm in 38 Super: Based on Speer's #12 manual the 9mm has a rim diameter 0.3mm less than the 38Super, a shoulder diameter 0.1mm less than the 38Super and a case length of 3.71mm less than the .38Super.
Based on those figures I actually once tried it. And it went alright. Not that I would want to use the 38Super to shoot 9mm on a steady diet, I was just curious.
