I have just started reloading for 38 Super. Am using rimless brass and vvn350 powder. What would be a goood primer?

I use Small Pistol primer, but lot's of people use Small Rifle, I find the Rifle stuff not necessary and causing me some problem in the past.....

Let's see if we can get as many opinions as there are options....grin..seriously, try a few and use what you like. I honestly don't believe there's huge differences. I use Federal Small Pistol Magnums since they've got the reputation for being hotter and the primer cup is softer - supposedly leading to easier ignition.

I know some guys who've tried and chronographed small pistol, small rifle, and small pistol magnum and found negligible if any differences either in velocity or reliability.

Maybe get 5000 of each just for the "inventory effect" in your reloading room.:D

The origional reason for people loading magnum or rifle primers in the super, was to prevent primer flow into the firing pin channel.

With the lower power factor, and the new slides having a tighter tolerence around the firing pin, this is less of a problem.

You will probably have good results with any primer, so long as you work your load up with it.

Well I have shoot just about 35K of them SP and SPM with no problem...shoot mostly in 9mm Major last year, some in 40SW and now only in 38 Super Comp....no primer flow! and these load were of course making major......at these level 3 NS, ONT and Que Provicials.....also Summer Slam 2, Triangle Match....and the Nationals...

I had no failure.....

I use Winchester rifle primers in everything I load. They stand up to major power factor loads with no primer flow. I believe Walter was talking about me, when I used CCI primers, I had almost 20% primer failures.
