Not sure if this is the right forum to ask.

Will .38 Supercomp ammo work in .38 Super firearm? I know the only difference is the rim so theoretically only extractor might be different. I know I can try and see for myself, but are there any precautions ?

Thanks,
Igor.

No problem, depending on how your extractor is set up it may not extract - the rimless case dictates a different set up but you don't have to worry from a safety perspective.

The load would be the same...rim tension would be more on the supercomp...might not feed super in a supercomp, but supercomp in a super might not be enough tension. I recently fired supercomp out of my super and worked the same.

I believe the supercomp breechface is smaller, so shooting super out of a supercomp gun shouldn't work. But shooting supercomp out of a super might work if you swapped extractors you could try it.

it depends on the slide your using, STI uses the same slide for 9s and supers, caspian and svi interchangeable breechaface and even nowlins uses true 9s

The breechface is the same, the rim size being the difference and you should have no problems other than what's mentioned here. Grab a few supercomps and give them a try!

.38 Supercomp typically uses a 9mm breechface if the gun is built specifically for supercomp. All my guns run a Super breechface with a 9mm extractor (AFTEC) and run supercomp with no problems.

This is what I thought. The only change from .38 Super to supercomp will be the extractor. The issue is that I want it to work with both Super and Supercomp...

X2, my pistol handles supercomp just fine and my LNL AP shell plate seems to accommodate the smaller rim better. When switching to supercomp brass, I did find I could reduce loads by a few tenths and maintain velocities.
