380 British?

Considering that 380 british is not a listed caliber in the SOR 98 464, has anyone actually seen one or owns/owned one?

If so then what models and makes does this calibre find itself in?

So then if an antique is chambered for 380 brit, is there a possibility that it would be disallowed as a prescribed antique, and instead be classified as a restricted firearm, simply because the two calibres may be so close in relation and dimension?

There are so many British bulldogs sellers out there that say their listing is that of a 38 calibre british revolver...but the gun itself does not have any markings on it that say whether it is a 380 Brit or 38 S&W.

So with the lack of markings would it then be left to be calibre based upon it's home country? Or would it stand to measurement etc.

What level of expertise and knowledge do the people at Customs really have in regards to such antique classifications and original calibre designations?

.38 Smith and Wesson and .380 british are one in the same. 1 is the US name and the other is the british designation. Most guns were Smith and Wesson Victory models, Webleys of various marks and models, just to name a few. It was a very popular Police and Military caliber in the 30's to 60's

There are two .380 revolver ctgs.
1) 380 revolver,aka 380 sht CF etc, a round devloped c1868 in Britain and used in Webley ,Tranter and many other makes of revolver. Very similar to 38 Sht Colt ctg. Used a heel type bt about .375" dia.
2)380 Enfield MkI/II adopted as service ctg in Britain c1929. Case same as 38 S&W.
