Currently bent mosin bolts are impossible to find. So are stock bolts for that matter. I don't want to modify my original bolt so I've been looking for a solution. A friend of mine who does 3d printing suggested this:

I know these plastics are tough, but is this a disaster waiting to happen?

Your bolt is responsible for primary extraction... imagine if it broke while trying to extract a live round.

Depends on the filament. PLA is degraded by heat, sunlight and water for example. Even nylon wouldn't be much use if a case doesn't want to come out. You might have to wait for metal printers to come down in price, then you can print gun things all day long.

Edit: Just looked at the picture of the bolt, gosh no, that is designed to snap off.

The limitations of standard thermoplastic 3D printing make this basically not possible. With the force being put on the bolt handle to #### the rifle or perform primary extraction, you're not going to get more than a few cycles out of a plastic bolt handle before it snaps off in your hand. Just not the right material or process for the job unfortunately.

That was my suspicion. Kaboom then ouchy.

Nice avatar btw Daver_II

While I don't think a kaboom is in order, what could very easily happen is that the bolt fails and you have an absolute dandy of a time trying to open the action.

Possibly with a live round stuck in the chamber, and then you get the embarrassing drive to a gunsmith if you're not set up to deal with it on your own.

You as well.... just noticed.
