I've wondered with how expensive magazines are and hard to get, is it legal to 3d print a magazine that holds no more than 10 rounds? Something that has a solid block internally so no rivets are needed.

I see no reason why it wouldn't be legal. I do see some potential issues with that idea though. First, you'll still need a spring and baseplate. I have no idea what that would cost, but might make the whole idea cost-prohibitive. Second, I would question whether 3d-printed feed lips to last the long haul.

I can't help but feel like people must have already tried this, which in turn makes me think there must be a reason why cheap 3d printed magazines haven't flooded the market yet...

There are numerous videos online showing that 3d printed mags do function well snd have a reasonable amount of life to them. When they do get worn feed lips you can just print another body for less than $1. Springs can be made by a 3d printed spring bender jig and some piano wire
