Hey guys, looking to get into 3 Gun in Ontario but haven't been able to find any reliable information on it.

I'm also looking at getting a shotgun for 3 gun. I will probably stay in the Limited class, so what are good ones out there?

Thanks.

This year there seems to be a lot more 1-gun, or 2-gun matches going on.

Not as much 3-gun.

Agreed...and shotgun seems to be the thing this year - which is awesome since the demise of OAS...likely due to the first ever Shotgun Nationals this September.

There are some local club 3 Gun matches being held though...I know Rockcut has a couple scheduled, as does Halliburton. Check practiscore and then reach out to the match director to see if they are open to non club members.

Is there a list / schedule of the 2 and 3 gun match in Ontario? Eastern Ontario I didn't find any but I'm willing to drive far. Just need a schedule! Thanks

He's my take...

The guys that host/set up/run/ran 3 gun matches have figured out how much work it is and realized it's far easier to get an F6NIA, fill up the car and drive to one of the many matches available south of the border.

Some of that happening here in SK where the nearest matches are 7-16 hour drive away.

'My furthest.. (or is it farthest?) has been 2570km one way, to Raton New Mexico.
If you're in Southern Ontario Michigan is an easy destination for some decent matches though...

Galt in Cambridge is still doing 3gun matches. It's been few years since I've attended one, but it's basically the same crew and they know their stuff. Also uber-friendly. Can't go there without having tons of fun.

There's certainly no shortage of matches going on in Southern Ontario.
Multiple matches are running every single weekend.

But most are 1-gun or 2-gun matches.

First off where in Ontario are you located? That will narrow down where to go for matches. 2nd my choice hands down is a custom Tactical Ordnance Versa-Max. Pricey but worth it for sure.

2nd that for Tactical ordinance versamax. I love mine! Went from a bargain pump I could rock quick to the versamax. Highly recommend. Quad loading is like throwing a hotdog down a hallway with it right out of the box!

You can regularly search Ontario on practiscore, or you can find the ranges that you would be willing to travel to and join their fb pages. 3 gun in Ontario isn't really as well organized as it is in Alberta or the US.

I disagree. The matches that are run here are VERY well organized. Just not a lot of them.

My club holds 3gun matches every month. The catch is they are only open to club members. We used to put on three larger matches open to non-club members every year but now that is down to two and may eventually go to once per year.

As 667 mentioned, running a regular series of matches is a lot of work and I can see why some guys eventually decide to stop putting them on and put their energy and resources into traveling to matches....or like at my club where we run smaller events that only take up half a day every month for a select group which gives us the opportunity to play with our gear and shoot with our friends right in our own back yard.

I totally get how after a while it can get heavy being an MD and it would be nice to step back a bit and just enjoy shooting without the headaches inherent in running matches. So I guess those of us that have enjoyed the fruits of your labour need to step up now and pick up the slack. That’s why a few of us at my club are working with the board and membership to get an action shooting program set up, hopefully leading to some larger matches where we can carry the torch...It’s been a bit of an uphill battle but we are slowly making progress. Hopefully before winter we will get a match or two into the calendar.

And having been the benefactor of shooting really well run matches by guys like Runningfool, 667, Tomo333 and others, I hope none of you mind when I send you PM’s to pick your brains a bit...

Fantastic!

I dont mean to say that individual matches in Ontario are disorganized, I more so meant organized as in many clubs acting together in a semi cohesive group. Other places seem to have a circuit of ranges you could travel to and shoot 3Gun almost every weekend if you wanted.
It seems like you have to chase 3Gun matches here. Sometimes they pop up last minute, some dont get posted on practiscore, some places do club level only, rules and scoring are different from club to club. IPSC despite its faults, has a very clear set of rules and a calander available to all who have paid their membership.
With IPSC I have several clubs I can shoot at within a 3 hour drive

If I want to shoot 3Gun, which I always do, we have to do it ourselves On top of running ipsc matches, skills and drills nights and being on the club executive team.

It's not a gripe but more of a hope that 3Gun will grow and improve.
