Hey guys just started shooting open in .38 super comp. I'm shooting 9.2-9.6g of 3n38 under a 124 g campro pill and SP primer. Every 4-5 round I get a big fireball out of my comp... its pretty distracting. Is this normal? Should I use mag primers, rifle ...

Cheers

Seen it before with some guys and some guns with 3N38. Build up of unburnt powder in the comp.
Some people like you find it distracting, some don't seem to care.

I'm afraid there really is no cure other than switching powders.

I'll play with the load a bit more and try rifle primers to see if it helps... really like3N38. 3N37 burns faster anybody have experience with it?

I had been using 3N37 in my open gun for years. Didn't get that many flashes or I didn't notice. Was told by others that was quite the flash but ?? I switched to SP85 for 10 years but that powder is long gone. Loved it, same as 3N37 but without the flash. Now that Open uses 121 gr instead of 115 gr almost every round has a flash and Yes its now getting Very noticeable. I have some 4756 that is not as good but doesn't flash.

yes, me too get that fireball, but doesnt bother me. you can try N350, N105 both are great for 38 Supers, prefer the N105 than 3N38 especially with ported bbls, drawback is you need more powders to make major.

Nothing you can do to prevent it. It varies a bit with comp design and after a while you don't notice it. 3N37 seems to have less flash but it's a faster powder so it doesn't work the comp quite as well.
