3rd gen 597 clip in 1st gen gun?

Does anyone know if the new generation metal clip for the Remington 597 is compatable with a 5 year old 597 that came with the plastic clip? Also please give me any suggestions to improve the reliability and performance

The metal clip is compatible. To improve the reliability find an ammo that it likes (mine jams on Dynapoints, but loves Federal bulk packs) and only use the metal mags. Should run like a champ after that. Also, changing the stock hammer to a Volquartsen hammer (costs about 32 CAN) drops the trigger pull by half and gets rid of the creep. Hope this helps!
