3RD Gen or ARMS mount

ARMS.

People will tell you that with enough loctite, the Springfield works fine; but the ARMS will work fine EVERY time.

Spend the extra cash, get a good mount. Get ARMS.

Trying to decide between a SA 3rd gen mount or an ARMS. What is the scoop?

Smith Enterprises Mount. Hands down.;)

The Smith mount gives more clearance over the action so cases are less likely to hit the mount and fall back into the chamber causing a stoppage. Also the Smith rail is longer which gives you more room to mount optics.

The ARMS #18 is still a good mount, but after owning th B-Square,S.A. 3rd Gen,ARMS#18, and the Smith mount, the only way to go is the Smith mount IMHO.

BTDT.

Besides using Loc-Tite, you have to hammer the mount to the side of the reciever to ensure a good fit.

S.A. mounts = Aluminum

ARMS#18 /Smith Mounts = Steel

I have an arms 18 on one of my m14 and a springfield 3rd gen on the other. the arms sits lower on the reciever and has a lot less mass than the bulky springfield. I also don't need a raised cheek piece with the arms. Both have held up very well to lots of use.I prefer the arms 18 over the springfield but if price or avalibility is an issue the springfield works fine.

Hmmm...I may have to go look at them. Smith's are running over $300 US

Has anyone really had any problems with stovepiping on the ARMS?

My last order of smiths were selling for $425.

As for the Arms.....I've never had a problem with my old style (open top) Arms....and i swore by them for a few years......but I had a newer one and did have many stovepipe issues.......I tried a Smith and haven't looked back.
