I had a good laugh watching that. What a cannon. How did it feel? Was it worse then it looked or not as bad as expected?
Looks like that gun weighs about 30lbs

I found a book on Internet - Recollections of WILLIAM FINAUGHTY - ELEPHANT HUNTER, 1864-1875 - do not recall him actually mentioning the size / designation of his "good" rifle, but 4 ounce lead round ball and heaping handful of black powder was his "load", down into the muzzle end, so probably 4 gauge. Multiple times in book he mentions that rifle knocking him to the ground, knocking him off his horse, etc. when firing it. Must have pounded unbelievably, at both ends... Just imagine the weight of the "ammo" needed for a couple months going "walkabout" to get ivory!

Lol, my skills of observation and attention to detail are on the decline. It's official.

Isn't 8bore black powder too, isn't there a clause for that?

Flintlocks aren’t considered firearms so I’d think it would circumvent the prohibition. Don’t quote me on that though.

I was fortunate enough to see a real 4 Bore at a gunshow once, what an awesome looking rifle. It weighed in at around 20#. Handloader did a couple of articles on the 4 Bore and the 2 Bore as well. The more common double rifles of that era were 8 Bore. IMHO, a shoulder fired cannon.

I think most are antique, if not, now prohib. Not to get political, but who comes up with these silly rules.

flintlocks and others in the antique category are firearms but under cc 84(3) are exempt from licensing and registration. They are firearms if used in a crime. The problem is that until 84(3) gets amended to include prohibitions of over 20 mm and 10,000 joules, they are prohibited. I think we would be wise to petition the RCMP and Trudeau to broaden 84 (3) to exempt such guns from such prohibitions

Thank you for the clarification of our asinine laws.

Craftsmanship on a scale that we rarely see.

I luv Safari game rifles and I own a few bolt rifles. .375 H&H - .416 Rigby - .458 Lott. - .500 Jeffery

I own a couple of Cape Rifles and I'm still on the hunt for my first Black Powder Cartridge era Double Rifle.

Something like a .500 Black Powder Express!

I have never been on Safari and at this stage in my life, I probably never will, but that does not stop me collecting and shooting Big Bore.
