I have a Mossberg 46M listed that has a 4 digit number stamped into the left side of the receiver. It is not somebody's SIN number and it is not electro penciled. The numbers are well executed, straight and evenly spaced. I know they could mean anything but anyone have a guess. Why I'm asking is because one of my Cooey 82's has the same kind of 4 digit stamping in the receiver. In fact, they aren't that far off in sequence. I know this particular 82 was used in the military for competition shoots.
I know the 46M was not a trainer as far as the US goes but is it possible that groups within Canada such as the militia or cadets etc. might have acquired various rifles at the time for training? Was wondering if they might be inventory numbers or rack numbers? Don't know so that's why I'm asking.
