Hey folks, I'd like to take a few minutes to try and share some ideas on how to fight back against the media and the Anti gun attitudes we are facing now.

First off, We need to stop using the phrase "loop hole" in our forums. It seems like everyone is out to get us and our guns these days and I believe the best way for us to stand our ground is to follow the laws we have in this country. To a T(however asinine the laws may be). Be extra vigilant not to give up anything to the Anti's to use against us. 10 round LAR mags are not a "loophole", we are following the law." Loop hole" suggests we are using dirty under handed tricks to get our way, not that we are using the law as it is written to help us further enjoy our sport in a safe and law abiding manner.

Second, we need to be polite, calm, and clear to Anti's when discussing or defending ourselves. The last thing we all need to be seen as are fanatics who wont listen to any point of view but our own. Thats the Anti's thing and we need to let them be the ones who look crazy.

Third, lets stop defending certain guns, accessories or whatever by pointing out another gun, accessory or whatever thats " worse" but still legal. Yes, the laws we have are insane. But pointing out things that have slipped through the cracks and past the anti's radar that will drive them into a frenzy even though they havent caused any problems or issues whatsoever is not helpful to us. i.e. certain .50 cal mags. Lets stop giving them ammunition against us. The smear campaign against guns and gun owners is relentless, lets not make it easier for them.

Fourthly and most importantly, stop the panic buying guns, accesories, ammunition etc. in response to fear that gun control will take our guns, our sports , our beliefs and our heritage away. Instead take action! Write letters to your MP's, premiers, local and national newspapers, news outlets and the Prime Minister stating your position against gun control and restrictive gun laws. Encourage friends and family to get thier PAL's. Let it be known that we as voters DO NOT support the current fad of punishing law abiding firearms owners and WILL NOT be caught sleeping this time around. Then go out and buy a bunch of guns, accessories, and ammunition and have fun! Be safe, Shoot straight and enjoy our sport as long as we can.

Lets stop calling semi auto rifles assault rifles, that term really doesn't exist other than in the movies and it simply confuses people who don't know any better. Also no 'black' rifle terminology, it's a semi auto, why call it by paint color, besides black is scary, and red goes without saying. Lets keep the terminology simple and we will all be better for it. Single action, double action, leaver action, bolt action, pump action, semi auto...and we'll be fine

Good point. I agree completely. As long as we treat them differently, the media will demonize them.

I am enjoying bringing up countries gun crime stats after gun bans such as in Australia and Britain, they all show a large increase in gun crime and home invasions.

Annnnddddd then bring up concealed carry stats etc and contrast before they were introduced and after.

Hits em pretty hard haha.

But the problem is finding a good comeback to "we should ban black rifles" other than they are good for sporting and hunting. They seem to think these black rifles are the root of all evil.

Its like beating your head against the wall talking to some of these folks. It almost doesnt matter what you say because they have their minds already made up about gun owners, guns and especially gun owners who want to own semi autos. I think the key is to conduct ourselves like intelligent, polite, courteous and safe firearm owners so that any neutral bystanders who overhear the arguments might have their oppinions swayed after hearing our side of the story.

My opinion of anti's hit an all time low when I see them exploiting the deaths of 26 souls as a way of whipping up the anti gun drive. Makes me sick, there truly is nothing those sheeple won't do to expedite the loss of north american freedom. Facck how the anti's feel about how we talk or what we do as law abiding citizens in a "free" country.
We have our own issues as gun owners in canada, and I'm not going to distract myself with the thinking that US 2nd ammendment erosion is gonna worsen the laws here for us. Not yet anyways. The Gov stateside is poking the lion with a stick and I just threw some popcorn in the microwave

We are intelligent, polite, courteous, responsible and safe fire arms owners...but no one cares. We are portrayed to much as backwoods country folk. First and foremost we need to change how people see the firearm community, we come from all walks of life.

5th, stop telling people that ask about all the non restricted "ar15" lookalikes, let them use there own tools to find them.
6th, stop talking in peoples posts asking what weapon is the best for self defense and such others that antis will come on here, read and misinterperet as us planning ahead to protect our homes with violence.

Redbearded1; I suggest you read some more and explore the forum a bit before your start telling others around here what they "need to do"

With some of the things that have happened in the past, posts such as yours, when coming from someone with such a low post count, are taken with a grain of salt, so to speak. While I am sure some will agree with some of what you have said, others will look at it with suspicion.

Besides that, welcome to the forum :)

All very good points and I agree with all to some extent.

Blaxsun, I have come across many of your posts in my Tavor research lately and was curious what your opinion might be, being a veteran of this site. I have tried that course of action in the past but find that it doesnt gain us anything. I don't want to stand by while more of our guns are outlawed by no other reason than its name or that it "looks scary". The anti's are ruthless and will use any tragedy to further their cause. I feel it is up to all gun owners, AR enthusiasts especially, to not let them gain traction.

What it all comes down to is that I like to shoot guns. Its fun and makes me happy and I dont want that taken away from me.

Let them push. Without another party to engage, they'll eventually devolve to the point where they start being perceived as the raving lunatics they are.

With all due respect, perceived by whom? They have the ear of the media, the gov, and they listen to themselves fondly. They will never perceive themselves as lunatics. It is what it is, no need to shout from the roof tops, but there is also no need to shy away from debate when it's called for.

The CPC already expended a significant portion of political capital to scrap the LGR. They have no desire to revisit the issue unless it's forced upon them. Since the anti-firearm lobbyists are trying to manufacture such an issue to compel the Government to do so, the simple solution is to publicly ignore it - and not give the antis anything but a one-sided argument (which it will be anyway).

This would probably be an excellent opportunity to write letters of support to the CPC along with donations.

Deny them any outlet and watch how quickly they devolve in a vacuum. Let them compete with the "Idle no More" movement for attention. This should be good... :D

I dont understand the suspicion. I DO however understand that nobody likes being told what they "need to do" And apologize for seeming like a new guy coming in and barking orders. Not my intent at all. I was just trying to open a discussion with a few starting talking points. My ideas and opinions that nobody needs to do anything with but that they hopefully consider and correct me if I am out of line. Thanks!

One of the reasons I encouraged folks to go out and continue buying guns, Accessories etc on my last point was that a good way to let our voice be heard is to let our cheque books do our talking for us. Gun guys like me like to spend money on guns, gear and hunting. The gun industry is booming and when consumers are spending billions of dollars on a certain industry, it makes it harder for the government to mess with.

Hit them with the "3% of homicides in the states are used with rifles, with black rifles being a subset of that" stat.
