Hey, folks.

C. 10 years ago, I made a deal in Calgary for the target rifle setup of Dr. Havilland John Williams. Here's a glimpse of what I have:

There's a second rifle - a wee Savage single shot in .22 with target sights - and a ton of Parker Hale stuff - cleaning rods, the PH5-C sight on the Enfield (Long Branch, BTW, with a VERY nice bore), a scorebook showing he shot at Connaught Range several times back in the '50's, a can of PH oil...

...a funnel for flushing the bore, a felt arm cuff to go along with the sling, a lanyard of some sort...

...a brass oiler, three or four chargers, a complete K98 cleaning kit, a segmented rod, several rounds of wartime production .303, two brass buttons, a wee stirrup/rest thing for the rifle...

...unopened dressings, spare sling swivels, the original back sight for the rifle, spare front sight inserts for the .22...

The box itself is an adapted transit chest of some sort. Both rifles ride in cradles. Very secure, hell for strong, weighs half a Goddamn ton.

Two questions -
- I'm assuming I'm looking at something pretty special here. It even comes with a note from the wife of the previous owner with some backstory on Dr. Williams. Am I right in assuming it's a time capsule of sorts and perhaps interesting to an Enfield collector as-is?

- What would be a reasonable price for such a thing?

Yours in curiosity,

Dan

Yes, it's a time capsule of sorts and perhaps interesting to an Enfield collector as is. I don't know that collector and I'm not sure you can find him or how much he'll pay. You might end up with more money if you sell items separately. You might get more good out of it by keeping it and shooting it.

There was a No4 MkI* with the same sights on the EE. I believe the fellow had $1300 on it.

I saw another on Gunboards with $1500US as asking price.

I have one just like your rifle. I have taken it to gun shows and put a rediculously high price on it. It is in excellent condition and draws No4 admirers like flies to honey. I have had few offers around $1100 and one very brazen and insistent fool that wanted to trade his stock plus $50 for the stock on the match rifle. He was irked because he though he was being very fair. His stock set was full of dents and had repairs. Yeah right.

If you don't need the money, keep it and shoot it. Mine shoots better than I can hold.

A very good condition Long Branch 303 cal, with a PH5C, no evidence of being tuned by Fulton or visible dowels etc is the going rate. 800-1,200. Other items will sell individually to collectors/shooters. PH 1 or 3 piece rods 20-30. Unused brushes 5-10. Dressing pre 1945, 20; later 5-10. Lanyard 10-20, Rds and stripper clips 1-2 each etc, etc.
That Score Book filled in or not should be wanted by someone. However I have an earlier WWI score book for Ross/SMLE and no cares for it.
I like them, nice collection!
By the way I shot Connaught 82-93. Two Canadian Army and one International titles, but I did not meet that Dr. His name will be somewhere.

Lyman, I think. I'd have to get another look. Can't recall off the top of my head. It has a matching front site that's a long tube with changeable inserts. I think the Doctor was very serious about his target shooting.
