New to this revolver, went to get .357 rounds and I was told I can pass .38
Specials through this revolver which are cheaper! Ok thanks gun guy. He then tells me I can also put .40 cal through it. Is this true? I’ve heard of the .38 specials but not .40 cal? TIA

Have the seller demonstrate the idea before you hand over some money......

Yep, what the hell are you talking about.
Did you buy a 357 mag revolver?, I hope not from the idiot that says you can use 40 cal.
You can , and I do shoot 38 special ammo out of a 357 mag. gun. the only difference is the length of the case.
You can't put a 357m in a 38 special , or a 38 s&w gun because of the length.
a 38 cal is 9mm in size, but the cases are different.
Post what make and model of gun you are talking about and we can give you advice.
38 is easy shooting, 357 mag is not great for a new shooter, plus way more money. sort of like your 9mm and 45 pistols, you have ,I guess.

The only instance of .40 being able to fire through a .38 is a .38-40 (actually .401) with a .40 S&W cylinder, Ruger used to make a convertible model

But it sounds like this guy really pulled your chain

Can you confirm please which model of revolver you have? A S&W 586/686 or 27/28 are chambered in 357mag and you can fire 38sp from them. A S&W 610 is chambered in 10mm and you can fire 40S&W through it as it uses moon clips to headspace the 10mm and 40S&W rounds.

Coming soon: ".357 for sale: excellent condition / barely used... only seen one round of .40"

Honestly though did you not learn anything in your PAL/RPal courses?
