.40 s&w brass bulge??

Hey guy's,

Here's a question for all the reloaders out there. Has anyone heard of it being said not to reload any glock .40S&W brass due to case bulging? I guess this is related to a portion of the chamber being unsupported during firing. Any comments or anyone able to shed some light on this for me? Much appreciated.

Just keep and eye out for split cases after reloading and firing.

It is also advisable to use one of the excellent Lee Factory Crimp dies...they
work well, are inexpensive, and do a final case sizing on any of the case that
'snuck' through on the regular full length resize.
It is also advisable to case gauge ALL of the rounds you're going to use
(in competitions)...Ahem,...don't ask know how I know!:redface:
 
I reload them for practice rounds (low pressure reloads). Yes, +1 too on the Lee factory crimp die. YOu will defenitely need it to resize back the bulge at the base of the unsupported brass so it will chamber properly in your pistol.;) ;) ;)

It can be done, but I wouldnt. Simply put the case will bulge at the base when its fired. More so than a supported chamber. Resizing puts more pressure on the bulged brass. If you resize all the way down your really working that bulge. Then the case is fired the presure is going in the path of least resistence. Will that be pushing a bullet or a case blow out?
 
Almost all the the used brass I have has been fired in a Glock at least once.

I use the Lee Factory Crimp Die last and have never had a problem including multiple reloadings at high pressures. (shot in a 1911) The factory crimp die sizes down a bit farther than the sizing die.

I had some old commercially reloaded 9mm that wouldn't chamber in one of my guns because the ammo was not sized down enough, and the gun has a tight chamber. I ran all that loaded ammo through a Lee Factory Crimp die and no problems fitting in the gun after that. That made me a believer.
 
I have reloaded lots of bulged 40 S&W brass with RCBS carbide dies and they remove all the bulge no problem and the ammo functions perfectly in my 4006.
