Got some trigger and tinker time in on my new JR Carbine in .40S&W. Most factory loads group in the 1.5" range @ 50 yrds. using a Burris Fastfire II, Doesn't like 180gr Federal anything. Put an ambidextrous safety and a Hoque grip and mid length free float tube on it - takes away that long barrel look I think. Fully loaded Glock mags can be a pain to insert if the bolt is closed (Note: I am a south paw and have the ejection set up on the left side) With the Hogue tube it weighs in at a hair over 6.7 lbs. The .40 gets a nice velocity boost in the 100-200 fps range for most loads - I was quite surprised, and is putting out 600-700 ft. lbs. of muzzle energy, and is light in the recoil dept. Only real issues have been the extractor, broke a couple but the manufacturers are excellent with support are sending some beefed up 2nd gen. ones for me. It makes a great critter ridder around the farm.

Uh oh, extractor issues? 2nd gen being sent out?

From what little research I've done it appears that this is a common approach by JR in that they release their product and allow the end user to field test.

Hopefully the 2nd gen works for you first (2nd?) time round....

Glock mags. Ellwood Epps has a couple dozen of them (not listed on their website, you have to call). 2.5-3.5" groups @100 but the Fastfire II is not the best optic for that range. The Burris AR-F3 mount is kinda cool though, it has a small wrench, allen key and a spare battery compartment built into it and puts the FF II at proper eye height for the flat tops.

Could I ask you to detail the hand guard change please? Was it pretty straight forward? And will any AR free float unit work?

Thanks, i just got mine in 9mm and have started a fake can project for it.

Nice... looks clean. I also like .40S&W out of rifles as they then match 10mm Auto/.357Mag ballistics (from a pistol/revolver).
Hmmmmmm... you've got me thinking now.

Are the uppers on these designed to match "all" ar15 forends exactly?

BTW WHO CARRIES THE .40's?

Yes, it has a standard AR barrel nut so most AR furniture will fit. With the Hogue overmoded forend I just unscrewed the factory free float tube, removed the barrel nut, installed new nut/mount and screwed the new tube on.

Me too.. I was going to buy a .22 for some plinking fun but a JR Carbine in 9mm is looking better everyday, especially since i reload 9mm already for my pistol.. lot more expensive to shoot than a 22 but a lot less than an AR .
