400 h&h

What bullet dia you talking there HNL, if you're talking .416, then the cartridge you are asking about is the 416 Rem for all intents and purposes. Basically any diameter from 400 -423 on the full length case will compare almost identical to the 416 Rem with equal bullet weights.

The .400 H&H uses a .411" bullet. The cartridge sort of looks like a .404 on slim-fast with a belt. Similar to the .416's in performance, I would stick to one of those just for the sake of easier components myself.

I think both are going to be excellent cartridges. Basically the 400 H&H is supposed to create the same ballistics at 100 yards as the 375 H&H does at the muzzle. It pretty much duplicates game getting power of the 416 Rem Mag and the 416 Rigby, so if it is needed or not, hard to say...

I can't add anything else as I haven't yet built one, I did order then cancel a reamer for .400-416 H&H, would have been easier to feed, lots of .416 components out there and you can still mark it .400 H&H. If an owner down the road fifty years from now doesn't know it's a .416 still safe to shoot .411". I do like the sound of .400 H&H, and it's as Douglas points out a more cantankerous .416 Rem essentially. It's different and that can be interesting.
