Ever notice how the banner for this discussion are says" THe perfect place to discuss wildcat cartridges" ?
Here's an idea that I wonder has ever been disigned before.
The .300 Win Mag necked up to .40 cal.
I wonder what that would be like?
The .300 case would be perfect , I think , for something like this as the .300's neck is pretty short and it headspaces on the belt any way.
Let the arguments begin ! ! !:cheers::cheers::cheers::cheers:

The 300 Win Mag has been necked up and down for every caliber! It has the advantage of being about the longest cartridge that is practical for a standard length action.

By necking it to 0.416", it would fall between the 416 Taylor on the short side and the 416 Rem Mag on the long and offer no real advantages over either. Slightly more capacity than the 416 Taylor, but the bullets need to be seated more deeply.

The main problem would be finding suitable bullets for the .400 cal., not alot of development in this range except for the return of the .405 Win. If it was necked to .416" at least there would be a better supply of bullets avail. I'm not sure on the specs of the .400 H&H Mag.

300 win necked up to .400(.425") is the 425 express,and for some strange reason I think there was factory ammo or maybe properly stamped brass for it as well.

Ben:
400H&H is .410 or .411
