Hey guys as the title says. I'm shooting 400yrds plus now along with a friend of mine. This issue we are having is being able to spot. We are considering possibly hooking up a wireless camera but its hard to find a transmitter that will go further then 100meters. As of right now i have a Leupold 60X spotting scope and it doesn't seem to work that great because anything past 30x is so sensitive that if it shakes the slightest u can't really see that great. Anyways all suggestions would be greatly appreciated. If anyone is curious we are currently shooting with a 10x nikon scope and a 16x leupold mark 4 lt.

Also, this is a picture of my most recent shooting at the range without using spotting equipment. I basically did a 10 round grouping at the target holding over about 1.5mils (should have held over at 2) Unfortunately my first round was premature and i flinched. Of course i had no idea even if i hit the target until i drove up to it after i was finished shooting.

I have a Swarovski 30-60x 60mm aperature spotting scope. I mount it as low to the ground as possible to reduce vibration from wind. This works OK, but if mirage is bad I can only spot 30cal hits out to maybe 500 yards. If mirage is good I've been able to spot hits as far out as 900 yards. Another solution is to shot at a steel plate and listen for the "gong". This doesnt always work either. I have a steel plate I shoot at along a dead-end road in the country. At 800 yards there are trees all the way along the road and the gong is very loud and distinct, at 950 yards the steel plate sits in the middle of a cut-block and I can hit it all day and never hear even a slight gong. I was thinking some type of two-way radio system might help to hear the hits, since most of the time spotting them is near impossible with any type of mirage.

Go for the wireless set up. There is not reliable means of seeing bullets holes with optics especially when it warms up and you get mirage.

There are lots of Tx/RX set ups on Ebay that will work out beyond 500yds. mine will go to 700yds with clear line of site. Costs was very low.

You can also paint the gong with a hard-drying paint (not primer), so that it chips off when the bullet strikes. Then you can see where you're hitting with the spotter, in addition to hearing the sound of the impact. Another factor that affects the sound is the wind direction. If you're shooting into a head wind, the sound is carried back to you nicely. If you're dealing with a tail wind, forget about hearing the impact at ranges over 500 yards...

Get a good friend to sit in a low spot(like range butts)close to your target and phone him or use a radio. If you have a safe way of doing this. Sort of like a trap house. I know it sounds sketchy but I've been doing this for years. Our setup is similar to a standard military 1000m range.
