Would anyone know the approximate vale of this box of 401 Winchester? I may have a buyer but no clue as to value. Any help would be appreciated.

Ammo-one, Stateside, wants $8.75US EACH for that very ammo. Not that it helps much. $60 plus wouldn't be unfair. Shooter's Choice in Waterloo wants $38.95 per 20 for Bertram brass alone.
A Redding die set runs $67.99 from Midway. They don't ship to Canada.

Wow...thanks for the information guys. Just some ammo I got from my grandpa's estate. He owned a sports store in the late 50's and early 60's and what he didn't sell when he got out...he kept LOL

"...what he didn't sell when he got out...he kept..." Sounds like a treasure trove to me. That box of .401 SL is collector grade stuff. There's no telling what else is there.

And the whole trick is to find somebody that wants it. I had a half box of .401 that sat on the table for three years at the one gun show that I go to. Sold it for $10.00 to get rid of it.

I think it's worth $50.00 for the box of .401 and that pinfire and .57 Snider are interesting and a premium on the pinfire.

I have three boxes of .22 Winchester rimfire blackpowder early 1900 all boxes are full and two unopened. See one box the same as these that just sold for $200.00 in the U.S.

Google is your friend so do some research,

I have a 401 as well, wish there was a ready supply of reasonable ammo for it!
$60-80 is a reasonable price I would suggest.

Amphibious: If you 401 is for sale PM me, I know a guy looking for one:)

i have a winchester .401 SL rifle and a few boxes of ammo. I guess now that i know what the ammo's worth and its scarcity i wont be shooting it anymore. Neat old semi auto, it weighs as much as a tank and you charge it by pushing in a plunger under the barrel.

I just picked up a 401. I necked up a bunch of 7.62x39 to .405 today. They are wasp-waisted but should fill out after first firing. All the dimensions are pretty close. I gotta finish the stock on the rifle before I can try it though...Just an option to messing with the fancy collector ammo.

"...a few boxes(?) of these..." Pin fire ammo. 19th Century European stuff.
"...dimensions are pretty close..." The 7.62 x 39 isn't close to a .405 Win. It's rimless and 1.056" shorter for one. The .405 is a rimmed, straight walled, tapered, case that's 2.58" long. Nearly twice as long as a 7.62 x 39 case.
A 7.62 x 54R isn't long enough either. It's .474" shorter, the rim is .024" bigger in diameter and 10 thou thinner. It has a tapered base too.
A.45-70 is too short as well.
