Just picked up a Ruger #1 in this caliber and wondering if anyone else loads for it. I have some Barnes 300gr TSX and Hornady 300gr SP. What would be a good powder to start with? I have Varget and RL15.

Lots of 300 grain data on Hodgdon's site. Varget only on their site though.
Barnes has data for a .411" TSX bullet using both those powders. Under 'Technical'.

Varget will work for you. I use a very healthy dose of it behind a Hornady 300gr SP lit with a Win Std LR primer. Have no issues getting 2600fps out of my Ruger#1. The load is warm but not had to retire a single piece of brass from an expanded primer pocket.

Holy crap, that is a hot load
Most of the loads I see show 2200 with a 300gr. That is .375 H&H power level!
What kind of accuracy are you getting? Have you tried the 300gr TSX yet?

The velocity is high as compared to the factory loads but not excessive for a Ruger #1
Pic of the target speaks for itself

BTW I'm not the only one getting H&H velocities but a couple of gun writers as well.
