405 winchester

Got a couple 95s in 405, one take down and one solid frame. Never shot at anything that bleeds though, just paper. Bought a whole glut of Hornady bullets in FP and Spitzer been loading and shooting them a fair bit. Not a pleasant rifle/cartridge combo to bang off 100 rounds one afternoon as I did a year or so back. Never really sat down and grouped it but I could pick out rocks the size of roughly golf balls on the 100 mtr birm and bounce them around pretty good and can hit the 6" 200 mtr clanger with enough regularity that it isn't pure fluke. Cool cartridge with amazing potential in a modern steel action and with modern brass and components.

i took mine out, winchester single shot. it belts pretty good. i was thinking of going after wild hog with it. so many choices though, that , 444 or 44 mag bolt carbine.

Not exactly a fun rifle to shoot especially with the crescent butt plate like mine has! I once shot a moose that was angled at about 80 yards using the 300 grains Barnes bullet. The bullet went in the left shoulder, through the boiler room and was recovered under the skin of the right buttock. The moose fell like a sack of potatoes.

I have a Ruger #1H in 405. Shoots real well. 300 grain Barnes X bullets do well, as do the Hornady 300 gr FP. It speaks with authority at both ends. ;)
