is there any one that makes a rifle in 505 gibbs that would be suitable to rechamber in 408 cheyTac

the only one i have found is the CZ 550 Safari Grade Custom Shop 505 GIBBS
any good ?
is there any others
any actions that would be ok to build one on
that i can get sent out of the usa or canada that arent a 50bmg action as they wont ship them

im in New Zealand

For what a CZ is likely to cost, better to start with an oversized custom action. 6mmBR.com has a full listing of the makers in the US and UK/Euro.

Lawton comes to mind as a well built, well priced unit. No idea if they export.

I think bullets are likely the biggest hurdle as the only maker I am aware of is now byebye. There are/were at least two sources of Chey Tac brass but that too is iffy.

With the 416 Barrett stealing alot of the thunder from the Chey Tac concept, I can't see it surviving. Barrett has the ear of the US forces and the support of many big name firearms companies.

Chey Tac is an independent that has gone through a lot of teething pains. Unless a major ammo maker picks up this cartridge, I just don't see it surviving.

Lee is making 416 Barrett dies. Barnes is making bullets and I hear rumours that Sierra may join these ranks. Tells you a little about who is winning this race.

Yes, the Barrett is based off a BMG case so not good to either of us. But neither is building a rifle where the components are likely to go extinct.

Personally, I would look at the 338 again. There is no issue with components. New Wildcat bullets are really pushing the ballistics to beyond the BMG. They will export.

Jerry, from what I have read in an interview with Ronnie Barrett, even though the .416 Barrett cartridge is based on the .50 BMG case, the current Head Stamp reads .416 Barrett.

This was done to avoid the export restrictions that are on .50 BMG components..........

The initial cases used were .50 BMG..............

I read this last year, so things may have changed since then........

Skullboy, as far as I know, the barrett case still uses the BMG style primer. Cost and availability still pose problems for ongoing use. I also don't think there will be too much interest at the 'wholesale sports' to bring in bullets for such a small end user population.

Would be a most interesting cannon otherwise.

the cz action works well for the 408 cheytac. built mine on a .375hh if you need help or have any questions, just message me. i love my 408 as it's very accurate. I haven't had a problem getting brass and I hear bullets are being about to be manufactured in canada, along with 50 bullets

You can find 50 BMG brass in Canada to convert. Where can you get 408 Cheytac brass in Canada? The US State Dept. won't issue export permits for that.

Thats my thought when I see these threads about the 408...

Opps! I seen that you're in New Zealand. I imagine you'd have the same issues though.
