I'm interested of putting my Smith & Wesson Military & Police in 40 cal to the competition, but I'm wondering in which class I should go.

This gun is on the 'Production OK' list, so i could go that way, but the big 40 caliber puts me to the disadvantage in front of all those nines. Another option would be to download the 40 round to make it more controllable and still fit within the minor PF.

The other option would be to shoot in standard, which would take advantage of the major PF, but I'd be disadvantaged by the DAO trigger (not genuine DAO, more a Glock-like trigger system).

Any comments or tips?

It really depends on how competitive you want to be! Plenty of shooters have won Standard division in matches with Glocks or other duty type guns. Will they take you to the podium at the Nationals? Probably not.

You will be at less of a disadvantage in Production division, but with guns like the production CZ's and Tanfoglios you'll still be behind in the arms race.

Don't fuss over division, just get out there and shoot!!

If you want to be competitive you should probably down load it and shoot in Production. You'd be giving away too much advantage to the Standard Division guns as most Standard guns these days are purpose-built for racing, whereas the M&P is built for duty. It's not impossible to win with it; it's just harder than it needs to be. But in Production you'll have more of a level playing field so it'll be more about the skill and less about the gun.

What Rob and Ryan said... download and shoot production.

You're going to have a really hard time getting the M&P to be competitive with custom Paras, Edges and Limited Customs...which now make up the majority of Standard division.

Come to think of it, this is one of the primary reasons why production division exists...

I agree to down loading and going into production , works for my Glock .
However , I've recently seen one guy come 4th in open with a Glock and another I come second in open with I believe a CZ .
Thats gotta suck if your in open , lol .

That only goes to show that a good shooter is a good shooter regardless of what gun he/she uses.....
