.40SW COL Question

Looking for a specific COL for the following bullet -

40 Smith & Wesson
155 gr. Super-X® Silvertip® Hollow Point
Product Symbol: X40SWSTHP


Either a measurement from some one with some factory ammo that is above -
please average 5 or post 5 raw results.

Or some loading reference that is specific to the Silvertip Hollow Point.

Just been through this myself: All the 40 S&W rounds in the IMR guide, from 135 grain NOS HP to 200 grain SPR TMJ show COL of 1.125. Good luck.....

reason why i'm looking for specifics is cause of the very different HP shape.

155gr XTP's are listed at 1.125"
155gr STHP ???

my concern...

STHP has a HP opening of .222"
XTP - .172

sthp - .547" OAL
xtp - .560" OAL

sthp shank - .330"
xtp shank - .305"

sthp profile - more of a TC
xtp profile - more of a HB

guess I'll seat a few at 1.135 and check to see if they chamber without problems...

Because the airflow around the bullet approximates a standard Rankin Half Body, shape and specifically the hollow point architecture of the slug, may not be a huge factor in your calculations.

Load up at 1.125 and whack at it - but report your results. Thats how we all get to learn something new......
