I read on the net that gunsmith have converted single shot remington 40x to repeaters. Has anyone done it?

The advantage of the 40X is a more solid receiver. For what advantage when there are 700SAs that don't need the extra mill work?

Remington has made 40X repeaters, for use in the US National Match program.
I've not done it, and I think that if I had a 40X single shot, I wouldn't alter it, but there would seem to be a couple of options.
One would be to mill the bottom of the receiver to duplicate the M700/40X Repeater receiver. This would be more complicated than it appears at first glance.
A second way would be to mill a simple slot, which would clear one of the center feed aftermarket detachable magazine systems, like the PT&G.

I own both single shot and repeaters in 40x. I was wondering why one would spend the money to do it. I have some new
1995 built single shot 40x barrelled actions. I got the older CMP walnut stocks with a "barrel tuner built in" in front
of the stock to mount them in, if i ever use them.A repeater walnut stock would cost a lot on its own just to do a conversion.

I bought some of those single shot "barrel tuner" stocks from GPC years ago. Use 722 style trigger guards. I believe they were from rimfire rifles.
I have considered milling one of these stocks for the PT&G unit which accepts AR magazines; have a 1:8 Lilja .223 barrel on a 700 action.

I see $2600.00 us on 40x rifles on the net. I don't know what it is here. Waiting time is over a year. When I did it
it was 18 months. I put four of the repeaters in McMillan m40 type stocks with winchester trigger guards.

A gun shop near me brought in a 40XB Tactical that was floating around for a while as a sample (unfired).
They brought it in for a good client of theirs that wanted to see it.

It came in a soft case which was set in a hard case along with a couple of other things which I can't remember at the moment.
The issue with this particular rifle was that it had a pretty obvious blemish on one side of the barrel and there wasn't anyone interested in paying near full price for it.

I bought 8 in 1995. They cared about the name then and made certain that there were no issues. Included
phone numbers of the packing guys and test target guys. No issues at all
