My Colt 1889

Hello everybody,
I'll jump in on this. This is my Colt 1889 chambered in .41LC. It is 6" barrelled and points like a dream. It has kind of weird Old Colt Timing that has me nervous to fire it double action but in single action it's a nice shooter.
It's only problem is it's lonely and I feel I must enlarge the herd and get it a few more .41's for stablemates.

Egon; which version of '89 do you have? One is easily updated to '92 status and one isn't. Tip the cylinder out and see if you have the inlets for the req'd parts.
Do you shoot the lil F & W Bulldog?

Hi Tokguy,
This 1889 doesn't have the cuts for the upgraded cylinder stop. That's too bad but I guess I'll keep my eye out in the future for an 1892 as that would be a better shooter I'm sure. Or an 1878. Those rounds next to it are Rustywood Blackpowder loads and they don't seem to stress the old girl out too bad. I've also got Ultramax Smokeless ammo but I have a feeling it might be a bit much for it. I sure wouldn't want to break her as she's getting a bit loose in her old age anyways.
That little Bulldog is unfired so I think I'll just leave it that way. I thought it would be cool to buy an unfired revolver but it actually sucks. Just a paperweight really ( in fact I've used it for just that )
While searching up these .41 Colts I've seen a few of your posts; You've gotten right into the guts of your 1889 I see. If you don't mind I might try and pick your brain a bit in the future.
Cheers.

I don't recommend DA either, SA is the way to roll...they have a p*ss poor timing system. The '92's are an improvement, but in a cobbled together kind of way. Whomever was responsible at Colt for this debacle...shame!
Be glad to help if I can. I run about 4.2 - 4.5 grains of Unique under an Old West HB 195 grain mold...PL of course. 4.2 is what you expect, 4.5 is not a plinking round...you know you've shot something.
Pity yours doesn't have the relief machining for upgrading, I've 2 '92's to upgrade with ( 38 LC...pick them up for 200 $...parts pistols).
Stay safe
Tokguy

Ok but I want to see everyone elses !!image.jpg
I haven't shot my SAAs yet because, after firing them in my 89s,then resizing them , the brass won't fit in the SAAs.
All are colts made around the same time, you'd think they'd have the same chambers.
My 4" 89 is one of the best shooters I've got even tho it has a cracked forcing cone (which the seller failed to mention
when I bought it) quite a few have this and you need to check when buying, also check to see if the barrel has been set back
to fix it.live and learn

Snurge; yeah Colts are a little wonky in this era. I've a couple 38 LC's that sorta fit Starline brass...get that Coke bottle shape after firing. Was visiting with another member and he had a 1878 41 LC with a .385 bore. Which is great if you are running inside lubed 41's like a 44 Russian...not so great with heeled bullets.
Yikes!

My horde has expanded since my last post.image.jpg
Let's see others!
Great the pix is upside down!

Hmm, I will have to add to this thread shortly! My antique Colt 1892 in 41 Colt recentry showed up, plus I have 2 SAA in 41 inbound, plus a couple Thunderers on their way!

Here's mine, I no longer own the last three, only the top two. #1, the top Colt 1892, has newer barrel and cylinder installed(1926), but retaining the original .41LC caliber. #2,#3,#4 are all Models 1889 of different barrel lenghts and years, all in .41. #5, last one is in .38SPL, with a Police Positive barrel.
