OK its been awhile has anyone improved there 41 Long colt loads yet?
How about Trail boss loads ???

One fellow in B.C that i sold a nice 1892 Colt DA Antique Revolver PMed me with his info said he was getting over 800+ FPS and 2 inch or less groups at 25 Yds with BP slightly compressed loads.

Thats EX for a 41 colt and would love it reposted again. I filed the info but i cant find it anywhere.:redface:

Its my Frist Colt SAA 1873 41 caliber Antique gun.
Yes its Refinished but was a pro job done back in the 60s.
has sharp edges and markings are good.

I waited a Longggg time to find one in this condition that wasnt $3000 US but was antique by caliber and ser #
I love the refinish job the entire gun is perfect. :)

Dingus, If youre still looking for 41 LC load data...i was getting similar results with my loads out of a 6" thunderer. It was a hollow based rapine bullet over 16 grains of slightly compressed pyrodex P. Velocities were about the same and accuracy for me was about 3" at 25 yards (offhand). I also have data for a heeled bullet but the accuracy went out to about 4" at 25 yards.

Actually...the last time I used the 16 grain load I was stacking 3 shots out of 6 shot groups...resting on the bench...maybe just luck :D

PM me if you want and i can give you more detailed data at 13 grains, 15 grains and 16 grains with the heeled and HB bullets and i'll dig up the numbers on the molds for you.

...i wont even get into my smokeless testing...;)
 
Good Timeing Sportee my SAA Colt showed up today :)

Man is it ever nice i just love it! I got 400 Bullets comeing for it some are hollow bases 386 Dia and the other 406 dia are heeled base.

I also have a 1892 41 DA Colt that has bored thru Chambers.
When i got this SAA i noticed the chambers are NOT bored thru theres a chamber throat. so im sure it will shoot better than the thunder or DA 1892s which have the bored thru chambers
I think the Cylinder could be custom done to cause most 41 LCs have bored thru chambers with NO throat.
Very intresting. it chambers the 41 LC Brass perfect.

These SAA colts are BIG :dancingbanana: Im surprised by the size of the frame. This gun is like a new one outa the box from 1890s.
Looks like a pro Refinish job the cylinders chamber walls are .090 thick.

Im gona try some Trail boss loads theres NO data for the 41 LC but i will work up a good stout load for this gun. Its a supper strong frame with that heavy cylinder walls it can take more than a 1892 or thunder.
Im not shooting BP or pyrodex but thanks for the offer Please PM me the Info again tho just in Case eh!

Elmer Keith recomends 5 grs of Unique with the 200 Gr hollow based bullets.
thats for the SAAs and the DA 1892s.

A case filled to the bottom of the bullet and slightly compressed with Black Powder or a case filled 70% with trail Boss should do the trick. The 70% number comes from Hogdon/IMR as a charge that should be safe in the old guns.
 
I know it's already been said here, and you've said naw I'm keeping it, but should it ever go up for sale the cash is waiting here. ;)

I sold my .41LC legal antique SAA last year... honestly I really like the refinish on this one, usually I don't and would choose patina but yours looks great.
 
Dingus, I'm green with envy. That is one, drop-dead-gorgeous Colt you've just acquired. By gum! It must pay to be patient and always on the hunt!

Honestly Luck had more to do with it that being Patient LOL
Its like new Mechanicaly as well as finish.
I see alot of colts but this one caught my eye and Most Americans like there guns Orignal finished so it stayed reasonably.
I dont mind a pro refinished gun.

Thats a intresting comment about the Trail boss loads in the 41 LC
I will work up a safe load tho slowly.
 
Hi Dingus I just bought a Colt Thunderer from a guy in California. Waiting not
to patiently but wanted to know where to buy brass and bullets for this gun?
