I am having a really hard time finding 41 magnum ammo right now. Nothing anywhere I can find and I cannot find any projectiles to reload with that are not hunting rounds.

I know its not a common caliber but just thought I would check if anyone has heard or seen anything.

.41 Magnum has always been very much a handloaders caliber. I own two of them, and while I have never looked for factory ammo, I suspect it is not at all common. Likely your best bet would be to go into Shooters Choice and see if they can order you a case.

For reloading, I was always surprised how readily available dies and brass were, but bullets could be a pain. I bought a pail of 1000 cast bullets when I got the first gun, and I now cast my own. I doubt much jacketed stuff sits on anybody's shelf.

About 1970 was the last time I handled a .41 magnum... a Ruger Single Six... the caliber just never caught on...

I haven’t seen any factory stuff in a few years. When I bought my Blackhawk it came with everything to reload except for powder and primers. I have acouple of moulds for it so cast my own. Your going to have to start casting or buy from someone that does. Occasionally you will find stuff at gunshows but usually doesn’t last long so buy when you see cases or bullets.

Can't help you with brass, but I have a couple hundred Sierra "Tournament Master" bullets (not cartridges). - .410" - 220 GR - FPJ.Sierra I.jpeg

Very hard to find anything on the shelf, although on occasion I have seen it. When I got my first .41, a Model 57, it came with dies, a couple boxes of bullets and 100 brass. I ordered another 300 Starline, and 500 Nosler JHP 210 gr, 500 primers, 4 lbs of H110. Got it all loaded up, and don't shoot it often (I have a Model 657 I take out for fun occasionally). Anyway, look around, see what you can order is my best advice, and keep your eyes open. I did come across a couple boxes of 210 JHP at a fair price and grabbed them a few years back. But yeah, hard to find, and price has gotten outrageous.

For factory loads, ordering from IRG tends to be the most reliable source. They usually have some on hand. Up here it comes in waves. SFRC and Epps seem to get it in a few times a year. Nothing is cheap anymore.

Hey YPC! The nice folks at LEE Precision make 2 double cavity molds, …one is a 210 TL style, the other, a 195 grain bullet. I suggest you take a look at casting your own bullets…the nice people at Higginson Powder sell the melting pot, molds, handles & sizers….and never worry again about bullets.
You could even persuade a bullet caster to cast them for you if you provide a mold…..

If you're ever in a pinch and can't get mag brass, 41 special is a dandy round that can substitute through any and all 41mag handguns or lever actions. Prophet R. and Rustywood both were regularly stocking starline "special" brass for the 41, pretty sure they both still do. I've got 10-years into the 41 special now and have quite a variety of loads developed at this point.

- 210xtp's & 7.0gr Unique shoots +/-1000fps in special-length brass, mild & very accurate.
- 215swc commercial cast lead & 6.5gr Unique shoots just over 1000fps, also very mild & accurate.

Those two would be the most readily available bullets to find on shelves as a reloader. Home cast 255's shoot 1200fps using VvN110 and is a nice comfortable heavy load to shoot, I like that power level alot better than the grand majority of 210's factory loaded to 1400+ ... the VvN110 load is another that's extremely accurate at all ranges through revolvers and lever actions both.

The 41mag/special is a very much underrated caliber, it's one of my own absolute favourites for sure.. I sure hope to see the handgun market reopen someday. I'd order a short barrel FA97 in this caliber first thing, personally. Wish I had done it before the freeze.

Hmm. Learn something new all the time. I like the obscure and unique cartridges but can't say I've ever heard of, let alone seen, 41 Special brass or ammo. I see Starline makes it though. Can't imagine it being easier to find than 41 magnum brass.

This is like saying if you ever run out of lead for casting bullets, gold is also soft and dense with a low melting point, it makes a pretty good substitute.

Take it as you wish I guess, but gold vs lead?? Ok.

Starline 41special brass has been available at all times the last number of years, times while 41mag has not. Shooting 41special through a 41mag is the same thing as shooting 38special in a 357 or 44special in a 44mag. Its a loading component that's out there, available, and can get magnum shooters through if their lot of brass runs its life cycle and there is no available mag-length brass to be found ... I don't need to point out to anyone what fun it is to find components these days, regardless of the chambering, so why the lip over someone extending a hand to other shooters?? These boards are getting worse & worse.

It was around Christmas time, so this information is a bit dated, but if you happen to be around Smiths Falls, or know anyone in that area, the Canadian Tire there had some on the shelf. It was Hornady stuff IIRC.

No offence intended on my part, brother. Thanks for introducing me to something new. And you are right - when all reloading equipment is hard to find, good to be able to use whatever might be available.
