Having something of an obsession with hammer guns and .410’s (and 28’s) can be few and far between (at least I find them elusive to a degree), I just recieved one the other day bringing my .410 stable to 3 so thought I would share what I am working with. The top is an Army navy (27”) that I bought here (CGN), center is a JW Rosier (28”) and the bottom, SH Barker &sons (26.5”) Belgian of the hardware store variety. This latest one I am going to restomod perhaps this winter. Im sure there are a few hammer fans out there that also enjoy the little guns so just thought I would share. With any luck, others will share their little hammer sxs’s would LOVE to any and all. Thanks for looking IMG_2871.jpeg

Just a cheap Spanish hammer gun made for a child. 23" barrels and 12.5" stock but i shoot it so well in skeet despite the fact my finger barely fits thru the gaurd for the front trigger. Im averaging 21s and 22s with it

I’m just starting to research and look for a .410 hammer gun to buy… looks nice, leave some for the rest of us haha
if I find a bar action 410 in a configuration and condition suitable (and priced right ) I would be all over it but to pick up another back action, it would have be something special. If I come across one or decide to sell one of these I will let you know. If you want you can shoot me an PM every few months to remind me who it was looking.

The Rosier has a 13’ LOP (and I am 6’2”) and it is “interesting” to shoot. At under 4lbs, a toddler could hold it but even with light black powder loads little kids feel it. The Army & Navy, however sports a 15” LOP and I do quite well (for me) with it on skeet.

bar action: In the context of firearms, a bar action refers to a type of action mechanism used in firearms, where the action is operated by pulling a lever or lever-type mechanism.
It means a lever action so why not call it a lever action?

back action: Back action refers to the reaction or feedback effects produced by the output or changes in a system that influence the input or initial conditions, often in a regulatory or corrective manner. In the context of quantum mechanics, "backaction" describes how measurement induces changes in the state being measured, which can affect subsequent measurements. Thus, the term can have different meanings depending on the context in which it is used.

back action: In quantum mechanics, back action is the phenomenon in which the act of measuring a property of a particle directly influences the state of the particle. In all scientific measurement, there exists a degree of error due to various factors, such as unaccounted-for variables, imperfect procedures, or imperfect measurement devices.

Concerning firearms, what do you classify as a back action?

Don’t know where you found that but it has always been my understanding that “back action” refers to a lock in which the main spring is in back of the tumbler, “bar action” refers to a lock in which the main spring is located on the bar in front of the tumbler (sometime referred to “front action” but I’ve never heard it referred that way among the knowledgeable gun owners and smiths I’ve known. Two years at gunsmithing school in 1966-67 and a lifetime after, this thread is the first I have ever heard the term "bar action" or "back action" used.
...so I googled them for an answer and asked you.

Thanks.

It is amazing how fast Google can find things .
Never heard of those two actions either and now will go and goggle the words and search pictures.

Pinfire has laid out and covered variius actions in the British gun thread with exception clarity and stunning photos

In the world of double guns "bar action" and "back action" are very common. Same as boxlock and sidelock and trigger plate actions

I have not weighed this Lil folder yet but its like a toy. It does have a cut out on the hinge pin to stop the folding mechanism so it opens like a regular double. A feature i quite like as I generally dont like folders. However the wood on this deluxe model is quite nice.
