410 and 45LC

Good question it is a .452" bullet when the 410 bore is only .410"
I assume would it could work but the guns made to shoot both may have an extra long forcing cone to size it down

But then again the 410 slug is basically a sabot since is in a plastic cup. So the bore may be bigger then .410" but everything I read shows the 410 bore is actually .410"

The colt is 14k psi (saami) and the 410 is 13.5k (saami) with a 3" shell.

So the 3" chamber is basically the same preasure
That's pretty mild for Colt .45. Some loadings can take it up to 25,000 psi, and it's been taken beyond that in specific firearms (> 36,000 psi in some +p loads). HH had the only correct answer.

.410 may be used in a .45 Colt firearm, but it's not advisable to use .45 colt in a firearm designed for .410 (unless specifically stated that it can.).

https://www.americanrifleman.org/co... load operating,Colt (~14,000 PSI) ammunition.

With the 45LC pressures possibly being more than double a 3" 410 slug I can see possible safety concern.

Thanks for the input folks

Standard LC 45 loads are 14k, check hodgdons reloading. They list (13,800 as max)

Sure You can load higher, but it's like the standard 45-70 load is 28k. Not the lever load and not the Ruger no 1 loads

There are standard loads and then there are higher loads made for new firearms. But with our disclosing what fire arm, one is to assume standard loads

45 cal bullet down a smooth 41 cal hole. What is your end goal? Even if it makes out safely you won't get any measure of accuracy and that's if the bullet stays in 1 piece. Considering most 410s are of fixed choke which is rarely cylinder that 41 cal hole gets even smaller
I've seen 454 fired thru a cooey. Bullet came apart and a water jug at 15' was just splattered with lead fragments none of which made it into the jug.

There was no end goal.
Just a random thought while staring at an older single shot 410 with a long barrel..thought of cutting it down to 20" to eliminate the choke and trying a 45LC.

No intended use, no specific goal.

Just random gun thoughts while puttering around the shop.

Thought it was worth posting to stimulate conversation that doesn't turn into a schit show of insults, politics, covid, peoples pronouns, etc

Better buy a reloading manual before you load 45-70 28K is 1895 pressures . Springfield is around 14 to 15 K.

Well I'm going to trust SAAMI, it's actually 28,000 psi for trapdoor loads ( the lowest power load of the 3 loads)

Lever pressure is higher..it's more like 31,000 psi I believe

Buy some magtec brass in 410 or blow out 303brit or 9.3x74r brass and load brass hull ammo. Could play with with 10mm pistol bullets as slugs or load the thug slug slugs. Be a cool lil project
If I found a decent cheap hammer double in 410 that's what I'd be doing. Add some rifle sights and hope it's well regulated

I've thought about it. Even if pressure was ok. Still doesn't make sense. Either 45 out of a smooth bore or 410 shot out of a rifled bore. Either neither work. Don't know about the Judge or Taurus or what it's called

in my younger days we used to shoot 44-40 out of 410. brass was toast but it worked

depending on the shotgun that would be fine to do, i was just reading about this HR i bought in 410 and found these adds from 1920 and 1924. They talk about 44-40 dhotshells

the brass shouldn't have been that bad the bases are the same size but the neck would be blown out 0.010" although the bullet would be a bit large
