Hey there,

Can i please get some opinions and experiences on 410 over unders. Brand and model. I want go get one for my grandpa because of the weight and low recoil with a bad shoulder. It will be on the lower end of the price scale and i dont mind used. Lets say $500-$900.

Thank you,

I have hunted a Canuck .410 over/under for about 4 years now. I have put about 150 rounds through it on clays and have killed grouse and snowshoe hare. The gun has never given me any trouble what so ever. I would recommend this gun for a hunter on a budget.

My grouse swatting shotgun is a stoeger uplander 410 sxs. Not a o/u but I recommend it. Have a 28ga pump. Ammunition for either has gone insane in price. The 410 is more available, although apparently neither are available now. Middle of nowhere, zero chance you find 28ga shells.

410 ammo around here is available but hard to find and expensive. 28 gauge ammo is a bit easier to find and half as much money, unless things change soon I'd definitely go with a 28 over a 410. In either caliber a Huglu or CZ which is the same thing is probably your best bet.

28 to 37 bucks a box for 410 now. 28ga is 19 to 30 bucks for lead. While the 28ga is arguably better suited for more types of hunting the 410 used within its limits is all that's needed. If needing non toxic shot I'd move to the 28ga but if lead is to be used the 410 is a great light weight package

I have a Charles Daly in that caliber would recommend it

Charles Daly is not a manufacturer, they change manufacturers often, so the gun could be one of several manufacturers.
As far as shotshells go, 28 gauge is easier to find here, and the cost is less than 410.

Thanks for all opinions so far. Kind of considering 28g semi auto now. But i think it may blow the price past what i wanted. I have to look.

I have a Stevens Model 240 O/U in 410. It's very well built and has double hammers and double triggers. It's not as light as my old Belgian sxs for grouse wandering......still a nice O/U tho.....but only on the used market.

I have inherited some firearms, one in particular I have not seen before and was wondering what it was for. I suspect it is what you are talking about here.

Is this what you folks are talking about?

I just sold my stoeger condor o/u 410 with fixed full chokes last week that I used for birds while moose hunting. Replaced it with a 20ga after seeing the price of shells keep climbing. It did everything I asked of it over the last 15 years. Bought for $400, likely $6-700 new now.
