am thinking of m-870 .410 for "zombie duty" for the jr. members of the family-.410 slug and S&B buckshot being the preferred loads-input?

I don't have any idea what zombie duty is but I do know a person needs to be an excellent shot with a larger gauge to hit anything with the .410. It is an experts gun. If training and light recoil are your requirements I would recommend a 12 gauge with 1 ounce target loads.... more targets will be hit and the recoil is not bad. Wear ear and eye protection.

I definitely disagree with this one. That's like calling a 22lr an 'experts' gun. I learned to shoot shotgun on a .410 when I was 14. I can shoot it better than any other shotgun I own because of the small size and manageable recoil. Putting 5 slugs into a dinner plate-size target at 50 yards in 30 seconds is a cinch. And I'm no pro:redface:

I don't know about the zombie thing, but for a house gun, you can't go wrong with .410 slugs. Or Buckshot, but I have yet to see any available in Canada.

I think i misinterpreted your post guntech. I now realize you mean hitting anything with 410 shot requires more skill than larger bores. I agree. for hunting etc, definitely harder to use a 410 than a 12ga.
But for solid projectiles like slugs or even buckshot, its a different story.

Your pictures are so large they are off the computer screen..

Yes I was referring to shot at moving targets....
