Legally? Asking for a friend :) Don't see much difference. Actual reason I'm curious is the regs here say centrefire and minimum 20g for deer.

If the regs say centrefire AND minimum 20ga, does it really matter if the 410 is centrefire? It's smaller than 20ga so it's no good either way...

All common shotgun ammo is center fire, the only rimfire shotgun I know of is 9mm flobert (and 22lr shotshells, but they're not really shotguns per say).

410 is not permit but, you can shoot 45 LC in your 410 and in Québec at least it would be legal for deer Hunting

I do believe that would be legal in BC as well. The regs simply say centrefire rifle, with no other caveats. Only bison has more specific instructions as to what is legal for centerfire rifle.

Does the 45 long create much more pressure than a 410 slug? Just wondering if a 45 caliber slug qualifies as a centrefire cartridge. A 45 is bigger than the common 30 and should be fine at short range anyways

You might be running afoul of the law if shooting a metallic pistol cartridge in a shotgun during a shotgun only season....
Best play by what You actually know to be true and to be safe.

No the 410 is considered a shotgun and is smaller than a 20g it is not permitted. i did shoot 45 LC cowboy loads 255 gr over my Oehler and out of the 18 inch barrel of the 410, it clock at 1000 fps.
It is accurate enough, see target

Up to 75 yards it will do the job on a deer.

That's sweet gun. Perfect for the tree stand:) I would stick to 410 slugs tho. Partly cause I don't have a 45.. Yet.

Yeah I've read the regs. Just playing the devils advocate. A 410 slug is more similar to a cartridge w a bullet than a shotgun shell. No need to call the ceo. I know what they would say. Just wondering about the legal def of a 45 caliber slug. Centrefire or shotgun

The .410 bore or .410 gauge, is the second-smallest caliber of shotgun shell commonly available. A .410 bore shotgun loaded with shot shells is well suited for small game hunting and pest control. .410 shells have similar base dimensions to the .45 Colt cartridge, allowing many single-shot firearms, as well as some derringers chambered in that caliber to fire .410 shot shells without any modifications.

You say “centerfire or shotgun” as though a cartridge would be defined as one of the other... but they’re one in the same.

It means centerfire as opposed to rimfire, and shotgun as opposed to rifle.

Without comparing to a specific bullet, a typical .410 slug from your gun store is 1/5 oz. or about 87grains of lead at 1000fps. So not very powerful at all. Actually very ppor when shooting into a bundle of newspaper compared to other bullets/slugs. When they make the rules for hunting, they consider the specs on the ammo available commercially.

Having that said, I've reloaded .410 for decades and there is almost nothing I've tried that makes a 410 slug shoot any better, further, or more hitting energy. Its just a very poor low powered slug with minimal killing power. Its the perfect chicken gun, but far below adequate for hunting deer.

Yes, I know 45 LC has much better ballistics and energy. However I've never tried it with a full choke 410 shotgun.

Interesting. Why have you reloaded 410 slugs so much? I've shot a couple deer w 308win makes quite a mess at close range. My shots are at 20 yards think tree stand

Not all .410 shotguns are safe to use 45 Colt in.

I don't think the 45 Colt in a 410 would be legal for deer in BC. IIRC the regulation says "unlawful to use a shotgun smaller than 20g" Doesn't mention cartridge.
