.416 Barrett, restricted or not.

not quite correct. A number of the Barretts are prohibited by name so they are not restricted but prohibited.

This is all a mute point since the US State department will not grant export licences for civilians for 50 cal or 416 so it is basically unobtanium....

Hope that helps...

Cheers

You have other options. European made 50 cals or similiar. Also there are a number of gunsmiths that make custom rigs. Personally have a look at the 338 Lapua, lots of energy and not so hard on the pocket book...

If you really want a high dollar boomer, the 408 Chey Tac is viable as there is a Canadian bullet source. This uses good old LR magnum primers and cases can be had.

Still a pricey endeavor but at least you can shoot it readily.

There is a chance that the 416 bullets might be produced in time. Brass and primers are available so a 416Barrett could be built. Just not imported.

Interestingly enough, all Barretts are non-exportable. Even the new 338LM from Barrett can not be exported because it's deemed a weapon of war even if they're not being used by the US military.

I wonder if this isn't a choice of Barrett. Have you ever watched an interview with him... he seems like one of those "Heartland Heroes" that are against anything that could be bad against America.

That's just my take on things though.

Look at any of the Barrett magasines (yep, there is a quarterly publication promoting his stuff). He is most definitely red, white and blue. No issue with military/LE sales to friendly countries but his civy market is most definitely the USA.

There is a pic of a 50BMG 1000yd BR shoot at a big US range (Raton I believe). It looks like there were more BMG's on that firing line then in all of Canada.

If you decide to build one of these boomers off a bolt action, they would be deemed non restricted in Canada.

It has nothing to do with Barrett and everything to do with the US State Department. If it is military capable, they will likely not grant export licences to civilians. It is a fact of life and we best get use to it.

Correction and BIG distinction to be made.

.50BMG is not prohibited by name or by caliber,

Some of Barrett's models are.

We've been down this road too many times. If anyone doesn't know the 50BMG story coming out of the states, search past threads for info.

you have any info on this New 338LM from Barrett ?

Going back the Barrett 50BMG they were for sale in Canada. Think it was 1991-1992. I forgot what the price was but I can I ask a friend who had one. Is like all of them got lost. I don't know what happen to the ones that are still in Canada?

Well maby After this election is over and all the dust settles, the US might open there boarders up a bit..... Prolly not but im crossing my fingers....This frickin 50 ammo is adding up... could have made an extra mortgage payment....:D :runaway:

The Repubs think everyone outside of the US is a terrorist, they are the ones who put those measures in in the first place and they are keen to adding even more "security" measures. Your typical NRA type down here doesn't give a rat's ass about export since it doesn't affect them. The Democrats don't want anyone to have guns. So it isn't going to change no matter who wins. Sorry to say it, but I think that situation is permanent and will only get worse. Support those Canadian and European manufacturers because they're your lifeline.

correct. I was floored when i tried to order a Leupold scope from Cabelas USA, and they told me it was an "article of war" thus cancelling my order.

On this topic, Mr. Barrett does have a very nice contract with the DOD for the .50 cal.
