It should probably have enough stopping power for a kangaroo if thats what your asking.. Or at least a medium sized wallaby.

But in all seriousness it does sound like a good caliber for the NWT or alaska hunting. I had my heart set a lefty ruger alaskan in 375 or 416 last year but never had the funds for either when they seemed to pop up for sale.

Ah, maybe one day...

What are you hunting down under at the moment?

If you had gophers like we do over here you'd have a blast varmit'ing with all the open dry country you have. Id feel a little guilty shooting wallaby's though.

Hey bud, were just in spring at the moment, So im still chasing Sambar deer, Fallow an red deer have all Cast now but the sambar have a 2nd rut early spring so I been tryin to catch up with a 30inch model before the Snakes come out, i almost stepped on a Black snake 2 weeks ago which put me off but due to the cold snap i get back out!

I live in the South East of Australia, A big area called the North East, which is in the High country with Snowy Mountains, we hunt the foothills of the snowys an its very steep an some what rugged country with thick bush an in the gulleys the average shot is under 100, an higher on the tops 200m.

Further out North West toward the centre is all open an dry, the Whole lower east side is mountainess, lush an some rainforest like areas.

Sounds good, I lived on the east coast of oz for half a year. Beautiful country and the people were great, I still kind of regret coming back to Canada.

Anyway, the 375 and 416 look like great rifles, but obviously a bit on the big side for most of why you hunt. Btw what caliber are you using for deer there?

Or not.... :)

I just got a .416 Ruger after carrying a Brno 602 in .458 Lott for many years but as age catches up with me the 602 is just too heavy to carry ( it needs wheels ) I have put about 60 rnd.s through it and am very pleased.I am loading 400 gr. NF bullets and am zeroed in at 50 yrds. ( Leupold 1.25 X 4 Firedot scope ) set on 1.25 it is very fast on target and fast recovery from recoil. This is now my carry rifle for polar bear. I think it will serve me well for what I need.

I use a 35 Whelen (hawkeye) most of the time in Winter, an more recently been carrying the 300 WSM as its just such a damn light rifle (abolt)

The H&H is a popular stalkers rifle for the Big Browns down here (sambar deer).

An yeah out in the Outback, centre, north an west The Feral pests are going crazy, Camel an Donkey in the thousands, an of course Goat, pigs, brumbys, wild cattle, buffalo.

Down here in the East we just got the Deer populations goin nutz an the Wild dogs are poking around a fair bit too now.

Sounds like you need some help with the culling operation over there? Any chance that non resident hunters can get involved in the festivities??

Some Non residents, get more oppertunitys than Locals.... Cos locals wont pay stupid money for that..

aus residents might get lucky by a friend of a friend, or if in the brown nose committee to the organisations running the festivities..
