Very interested in this calibre, and I am curious to know how you reload for it?

Smokeless vs BP?
Where do you source brass, or do you make your own?
Primers?
Bullets? Weight?

My RCBS mold will cast the correct 390 grs FN bullet.

For Powder I use IMR 4198.

The Bertram brass I aquired several years ago, and it will last forever, due to the heavy construction.
I do not use BP as it is not good to my the brass, and the brass is expensive, very.
If you want to get some attention (similar to BP), put 1/2 a sheet of toilet paper of the powder charge before you seat the bullet.

Primers? Large rifle or large rifle magnum. I use both, but did not see a difference.

Lyman mould 340 gr with SPG lube. I is exclusively black powder loads. 85 grs of 2fg with a 30 thou card wad over the powder and powder slightly compressed. Very easy on brass. Some of my brass is over 20 firings. Using black powder cases have to be washed in soap and water immediately after firing otherwise your cases will fail the next loading. My cases are a mixture. 60 cases where new Bertremalso a few DKt and Graf bought new. About 40 Dominion also. I made up a batch of brass out of 300 win mag just to see how well they worked. The old Dominion cases need their mouths annealed or they will crack within acouple of firings. I have over 200 cases that will probably outlast me.

At one time or another I have made brass for my 43 Mausers from just about all the magnum numbers. I find 458 Win Mag the easiest to form cases with as the case mouth is already opened up. Little bit less work aside from turning off the belt. Once the belt is off I run them through a trim die for proper length and then a quick run through the full length sizer and they are ready for loading.
Both of my rifles are Model 71 single shots so I don't have to worry about a bevelled rim.

Here's what I do:

None of these are "perfect" replicas of 43 Mauser - 45-70 is a bit short (but the neck is long) and the rim is not as thick as 43 Mauser, so it needs to be set up to headspace on the shoulder.

"Bulges" on the base are cosmetic.

I've also used 458 Win Mag brass but the rim is inferior to that of the 45-70 and 45-90.

All that said, I have a good supply of 43 Mauser brass - Jamison, "unknown" made from 348 Win, and a few old Dominion, and I have used it too.

from the picture it looks like all your cases are separating

It looks like that, but no they're not. If you read how I converted them, I affixed a length of thin wall tubing to the base and that's what you see.

I no longer bother with that and just let them "bulge" a bit at the base.

I had a mix of cases; Dominion, Bertram and HDS (Huntington).

Sold the rifles, dies, and brass. Still have a box of 200 340gr bullets and the odd piece of brass kicking around.
