Hello everyone. I was just wondering if anyone has had any experience/s hunting with a 43 Spanish Remington Rolling Block Rifle? Thank you.

Got one but I don't hunt with it.
CTG power is in same league as the 41 Mauser or 1877 Werndl.
Should be good for anything short of brown/polar bears.

~400gr @ 1250fps? Is that correct for the cartridge?

If so, sounds a lot like trapdoor springfield 45-70 ballistics, and the relative lack of bison in North America gives a pretty good indication as to the effectiveness of that...

The Bison were down to their lowest point in 1884 - which is 11 years after 45-70 was introduced. By 1874 the government was giving commercial hunters free ammo in 45-70, and soldiers were ordered to kill any bison they see.

Did a lot of Bison die before 45-70 came out? Absolutely! But that doesn't mean the 45-70 didn't kill a bunch of 'em once it did come out.

The Buffalo were in a Death Spiral before the 45-70 was invented, as an example, the Pawnees LAST big Buffalo hunt was in 1871.The Orange is the Buffalo Range in 1875 (published 1876).
