Can you shoot any other round out of a 44-40 lever? Is a rifle like the Winchester Little Big Horn Commemorative really worth that much more unfired? It's maybe not worth anything anyway, I hate just looking at guns, I really want to shoot this one!

Without the original box and papers in factory issue shape, it is of little collector interest. there are a lot of them around that have been "saved" for the "big buck" and now so many of all sorts of commemoratives are filing out of the woodwork. Once it is fired, it becomes a very nice looking shooter and should be enjoyed that way. My Lone Star commemorative is ready for the bush tomorrow doing what it was meant to do...shoot...not hang on a wall or disappear into a safe ...only to reappear when the money is more....I say "shoot and enjoy".... What the hay, you can only live once ....

Commemoratives are only worth what any other Win 94 is worth if they're still sealed in the original box. Out of the original plastic wrapped box they're just another Win 94. Albeit in an odd chambering. Even then, you have to find somebody who wants it.
"...Can you shoot any other round..." Nope. There are other names for it, but nothing interchanges with it. The .44-40 is an odd cartridge. It's not straight walled. It's sort of bottle necked with thin cases walls. The thin walls makes a bit tricky to reload too. Not impossible though.
