Im looking for hp projectiles for 44-40 win i have a winchester 1892 dated 1914 and I know i can't use the 44 cal xtp's because thay are to big for the bore
One idea I had was drilling into the lead rnfp projetile and making my own what do you think ?

You could drill out the bullet noses. But, unless done under controlled conditions(drill press, etc.)controlling depth and final projectile weight could be problematic.
As Snider Shooter recommends, a better option is to order a custom mold. I've also had good success with Accurate Molds. May be worth checking out their online catalog. Or, send the owner a query. As mentioned, the mold can be cut to your dimensions.
There are other quality bullet mold makers out there. But, this info may be useful.

ps: You are likely aware of the need to slug your rifle's bore, prior to ordering a mold. Best way to ensure good bullet fit.

I'll second that, and you might get lucky. I have owned 44-40's with bores that were just under 0.429" and shot 44 mag bullets just fine. - dan

45ColtTom: Should you order a custom bullet mold, .428"-429" should do the trick. If .429", you can size down, if required. With ideal bullet diameter likely .428". Which should provide a good mechanical fit to your rifle's .427 bore.
If you still wish to drill out the bullet nose, consider the Lee 429-200 RF mold. A cheaper alternative that may also work. Which also leaves you with the option to shoot a solid bullet.

My 92 shoots .430 fine. It's very old early 20th century I forget what year. I shoot 427 in my marlin which has a .423 bore. Winchester have bigger bores. I think you will be better with .429 or.430. I shoot campro plated .429 in my 92 but it shoots.430 xtp just fine
