aquiring one of these, just wondering about what ammo they like. I know lead is a no go, what about TMJ, or JSP? Also where is a place that stocks any, SFRC hasn't had this caliber in forever. Any input would be appreciated.

Several of us here have D.E. in 44 mag and all seem to shoot the American Eagle 240 gr JHP quite well. Feeds well and is surprisingly accurate for box ammo.
We have a pretty good stock of this ammo too if you need some.

yes I do! All I have is a box of 180gr PMC hollow point stuff laying around. And if it works well then it makes sense to buy some. I will drop by there tomorrow.

A little off topic, sorry OP, but I wonder if you shot a very, very hard cast bullet if you would still have problems with leading of the gas system?

Almost any full power 240gr jacketed load will function.

I'm in the same boat (44 barrel on back order) but confused as to what constitutes full power. if the DE functions well with american eagle 44 i guess that is good enough for me as it is quite accessible but 240gr at around 1250 ft/s (albeit barrel length not stipulated) doesn't seem like full power. Winchester white box 240 moves at less than 1200. I always thought full power was 240 at 1400-1600. no one seems to make anything like that anymore except buffalobore.

Factory 44 mag generally comes in 2 flavors ,full bore and mid range. Buffalo Bore and Cor Bon are what I consider specialty ammo, and generally not for the faint of heart.

Not only lead is a no go but any bullet with an exposed lead base is not recommended. TMJ ou JHP or JSP will work better on the long run.

"...aquiring one of these..." How big are your hands? Friggin' pistol is the biggest SOB I've ever fired. Couldn't reach the trigger. Recoil wasn't in the least bit bad though. Mind you, a 5 pound pistol will be like that.
"...so Remington 44 mag and 44 mag the same thing then?..." Yep. You should read more though.
