This will be my first post here so I decided to post up my new project. I just picked up a 1944 Longbranch No4 Mk1* (65L0078) sporter from a co-worker. His loss, my gain. It has a 1944 receiver with a 1943 Longbranch barrel. I have ordered in a new furniture set and a few other items. Just waiting to get the furniture in as it came with some bands and bolts. Need to know what exactly I need before I order anything else. Here is a picture of her with her older sister a 1943 Longbranch No4 Mk1* I already had. I will update here as she goes together.

It is completely resonable to get rid of a rifle that may have killed someone! It only may have killed a fascist, anti-Semite, nazi! What a great tradegy it would have been too kill them, what a world it would be now if that rifle didn't defend freedom.

But beautiful rifle! It will look fantastic when complete.

What passes for liberal thought. Guns are incapable of killing anyone, the guy who picks it up is a killer or not.
BTW, nice rifles. Does the sporter have the long butt stock on it? Looks longer than the '43 LB.

Good luck with the de-sporterizing. I did mine a few years back. I'm betting the hard part will be the three little screws that hold on the front sight ears, the front band and the middle band. They were the trickiest to find for me.

Sunray - Headspace should be good. It was being used regularly before I got it without any issues. The serial numbers on the bolt and receiver match. Have not found a serial number on the barrel yet.

Mike - Not sure on the butt. It does seem longer that the 43 though. It looks as though it has been sanded quite a bit. Can't see a serial number on it and very few marks. A faint set of initials are carved on one side. Due to the sanding and no serial number I have ordered a full furniture set so that it all matches. One thing I did find is that the barrel is longer than my 43 even though it has a 43 barrel. There are lots of markings on the barrel I will try and get pics of in a few days.

Well the furniture came in today and already may have an issue. It is not exactly what I ordered. Just wondering if I can still use it or if I should just get another set? When it arrived it is labeled as a no4 mk1/2 1950 Fazakerley set. Can this still be used or will it require a tone of work? If it is too much I will just order a new set.

edit: After looking again at the forend it isn't cut away with a screw like a mk2 would be. Could it have just been labeled as mk1/2 because it could be converted to a mk2 with work or was there a mk1/2 wood that was different from mk1?
