My opinion is the 4 die set is superior. The separate seating and crimping functions of a 4 die set allows for fine tuning. Also the few bucks more for carbide saves so much fooling around with lubricating.
Carbide is a must. Saves time and aggravation. I am personnally happy with RCbS and Hornady 3 die sets that seat and crimp in one operation. It also saves time.
I use a 3-die set of Lee carbide dies. I've never had any issue seating and crimping with the one die, and I've never had bullets pull out, even with 300gr full loads in a revolver. YMMV, but I don't see the 4-die sets as being necessary.
Carbide a must. 4 dies better than 3 but not necessary unless you want accuracy, ...........I've loaded easily 1/2mil .44's for silhouette and the 4th die is one of the keys for long range accuracy.
