I just picked up a few hundreds gas checked 240 grain SWC lead bullets as well as the mold for them.

I have H110 and am wondering if it will be satisfactory or if I should go to something like IMR 4227?

H110 works wonderfully, but I find it quite dirty. I prefer H4227 to it (and IMR4227 is practically identical), but you will not get top velocities (if that matters to you).

I could mention other powders, but you only asked about H110 and IMR4227.
 
I have found that H110 doesn't work well for anything but full loads. Trying to reduce it for cast ends up with inconsistant loads.
On their web site, they don't show it for lead until you hit a 325 Gr lead gas checked bullet.
 
H4227 is the 'extreme' powder, should be temerature insensitive. Might be a little on the slow side for the 44, and slow powders don't usually get along with cast bullets too well. If anything, I'd be looking for a smaller charge of a faster powder than 110.
 
44cal gas check bullets get along fine with slow burning powders--when we were shooting a lot of metallic silhouette the powders used were H110, W296, either 4227, AA #9 and Blue dot. H110 and W296 almost always worked best at near max load levels. Blue dot was pickier to use--had to watch pressure signs closely (muzzle flash was awesome though on cloudy days).

Mid range or short range target loads would be better with a faster powder

i agree w/44 bore.....Hard cast gas check bullets w/H110 for top speed and accuracy.....Don't forget....the same load with a jacketed bullet will produce more pressure!!
